How to read your chart

What is a birth chart?

A birth chart (natal chart) is a map of where every planet sat in the zodiac at the exact moment and place you were born. It has three layers: planets (what), signs (how), and houses (where in life). The horoscope in a newspaper uses only your Sun sign — one data point of the roughly forty a real chart contains.

Why does the exact birth time matter?

The Ascendant (rising sign) and the twelve houses move through the whole zodiac every 24 hours — about one degree every four minutes. Your planets barely move in a day, but the houses they occupy depend entirely on the time. An accurate time is the difference between a personalised chart and a generic one.

How is this calculator different from asking an AI chatbot?

General chatbots give general text answers. Tested on the same birth data, the major AI assistants either guessed from the Sun sign alone, cited low-quality websites, or said they couldn't show a chart. Starsigns calculates your chart with Swiss Ephemeris — the same library professional astrologers use — and draws the whole thing.

Which house system does Starsigns use?

Placidus, the most widely used modern system. The planets' signs and degrees are identical in every house system; only the house boundaries shift.
